EXCURSION INOUMAR GRANARIE
The excursion begins early in the morning from Marrakech, with comfortable and air-conditioned transportation. The journey takes about 3 hours, depending on the specific destination, crossing the Atlas Mountains and passing through charming Berber villages. This excursion gives you the opportunity to see the breathtaking landscapes of rural Morocco, including lush valleys, towering mountains, and small perched villages.
Arrival at the Inoumar Granaries
The Inoumar Granaries are located in a remote area of the Atlas, primarily in the mountains of the Tassift Valley. These traditional buildings are made of stone and earth and were designed to meet the needs of mountain dwellers, who must store grains, dried vegetables, and other food products to survive the winter.
You will discover collective granaries that are often built in strategic locations to protect them from the elements and attacks. These structures feature unique architecture, with flat roofs, thick walls, and small, secure doors to limit the risk of theft.
Visit to the Traditional Granaries
Once on-site, you will have the opportunity to visit these ancient Berber granaries and learn more about their historical and practical role in the daily life of the mountain inhabitants. Local guides will explain the importance of these granaries in the local economy and how they are still used by some villagers today to store their crops.
