EXCURSION TO OUARZAZATE AND AIT BEN HADDOU

Departure

The excursion starts early in the morning from your hotel or a meeting point in Marrakech. You will be transported in a comfortable vehicle (usually a 4x4 or air-conditioned minibus), with a journey time of around 4 hours. Along the way, you’ll admire the stunning landscapes of the Atlas Mountains, passing through valleys, Berber villages, and majestic peaks.

First Stop: Tizi n’Tichka Pass

During the journey, you’ll pass through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, a mountain pass situated at 2,260 meters above sea level. It’s one of the highest mountain passes in Morocco, offering breathtaking views of the Atlas Mountains. This is an ideal spot to stop, take photos, and appreciate the beauty of the landscapes.

Arrival at Ait Ben Haddou

After crossing the mountains, you’ll arrive at Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. This kasbah is one of the most impressive sites in Morocco, with its towering mud-brick walls and distinctive towers. Ait Ben Haddou has served as the backdrop for many famous films, including Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, and Game of Thrones.

Lunch at Ait Ben Haddou

After exploring the kasbah, enjoy a traditional Moroccan lunch at a local restaurant. The meal typically includes a tajine or couscous, accompanied by Moroccan salads and mint tea, served in a picturesque setting with a view of the valley.

Arrival in Ouarzazate

After lunch, continue your journey towards Ouarzazate, also known as "the gateway to the desert." This city is famous for its film studios and kasbahs.

Ouarzazate is also renowned for its movie studios (Atlas Studios), where many international films have been shot. If you’re passionate about cinema, you may have the opportunity to take a guided tour of the studios and explore the sets of famous movies.
